Explore treatment options for acne, pigmentation, texture, volume loss and more, with guidance on where to start.
Navigating the world of medical aesthetics can feel overwhelming. With so many advanced technologies, evolving treatments, and countless voices on social media telling you what you "must" have, the most common question we hear from new patients is simply: “Where do I start?” The answer always depends on your specific skin concerns, your underlying anatomy, and your ultimate goals. A treatment that works beautifully for one person might be entirely inappropriate—or even counterproductive—for another. That is why every journey at Skin Diva begins with a thorough, unhurried clinical assessment.
Our approach is rooted in the belief that your skin is entirely unique. It has its own history, its own sensitivities, and its own way of healing. It is also helpful to understand the difference between your underlying skin type (which you are born with, such as naturally dry or oily) and your current skin concerns (which can fluctuate, like dehydration, acne, or sun damage). To help you prepare for your initial consultation, we have mapped the most common skin concerns to the treatments we offer in our clinic.
Think of this guide as your starting point. Please remember that this guide is purely educational. It is not a diagnostic tool or a booking guarantee, because a true clinical consultation must consider your exact skin tone (Fitzpatrick type), your medical history, any current medications, your pregnancy status, and your individual healing response.

Take the Skin Quiz1. Acne, Congestion, and Breakouts
Acne is one of the most common and stubborn skin conditions. Active acne requires a careful, targeted approach to help reduce inflammation, regulate oil production, and clear congestion without spreading bacteria or causing unnecessary trauma to the skin barrier.
Active Acne & Congestion
For active breakouts, whiteheads, and blackheads, we look to medical facials, HydraFacial, and appropriate chemical peels (such as salicylic acid). If you have active inflammation or cystic acne, a medical assessment is necessary. Note: Microneedling is never performed over active acne, as it can spread bacteria and worsen inflammation.

2. Texture, Pores, and Scars
Once active acne is controlled, we can shift our focus to repairing the skin’s surface. Uneven texture, persistently enlarged pores, and residual acne scarring (whether rolling, boxcar, or icepick scars) require treatments that actively stimulate fresh collagen production and encourage cellular turnover to rebuild the skin from the inside out.
Scars, Texture & Visible Pores
Microneedling may help improve textural concerns and some acne scarring by prompting the skin’s natural healing cascade. However, it does not treat all scar types equally and may not suit every skin tone; an individual scar assessment is essential. We may also recommend specific chemical peels or an integrated skin resurfacing plan to reveal smoother skin. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) can sometimes be used alongside treatments for supportive rejuvenation.

3. Pigmentation and Sun Damage
Brown spots, accumulated sun damage, and generally uneven tone are incredibly common, especially after years of prairie summers. But treating pigmentation requires extreme precision. Not all dark spots are the same, and the wrong treatment can actually trigger a rebound effect, making certain conditions worse.
Sun Spots & Uneven Tone
For appropriate candidates, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacials can effectively target sun damage and age spots. Chemical peels are another excellent option for brightening. However, pigment assessment is critical: melasma must be treated with caution, as IPL and heat-based treatments can worsen it. Any changing or suspicious skin lesion requires a medical assessment first.

4. Redness and Sensitive Skin
Skin that flushes easily, feels persistently reactive, or shows visible networks of broken blood vessels requires a delicate and measured touch. Aggressive exfoliation or harsh active ingredients are usually counterproductive, stripping an already compromised barrier.
Redness & Sensitivity
A gentle, tailored medical facial focused on hydration and barrier repair is often the best starting point. While IPL can be highly effective for addressing visible vascular concerns (like broken capillaries), it is a management tool, not a cure for rosacea. A proper assessment ensures we do not overstimulate reactive skin.
5. Dry, Dull, and Dehydrated Skin
There is an important distinction in skin health: dehydrated skin lacks water, while dry skin lacks oil. Both, however, can leave your complexion looking dull, tired, and feeling rough to the touch. Our goal here is to simultaneously remove the buildup of dead surface cells while helping to replenish moisture.
Dryness & Dullness
HydraFacial is an appropriate option for infusing hydration while gently clearing away dull surface cells. Dermaplaning may help brighten by removing peach fuzz and dead skin. Customized medical facials can also be tailored to help restore moisture and radiance. At home, professional skincare products provide vital daily support.
6. Expression Lines and Wrinkles
When we smile, frown, squint, or raise our brows in surprise, the underlying facial muscles contract and fold the skin above them. Over time, as our skin’s natural elasticity decreases, these dynamic lines can linger and etch themselves into the skin even when your face is completely at rest.
Expression Lines
A cosmetic neuromodulator consultation allows us to discuss how relaxing specific facial muscles can soften existing lines and help prevent new ones from deepening. This approach is highly effective for forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.
7. Volume Loss, Contouring, and Lips
As we progress through different stages of aging, we naturally lose facial fat pads, bone density, and collagen. This fundamental structural shift can lead to visible hollows under the eyes, deeper nasolabial folds, or a subtle loss of definition along the jawline and mid-face cheeks.
Volume Loss & Structural Changes
Dermal fillers are designed to restore lost volume and enhance facial contours—they do not address skin texture. It is important to understand that filler treatments carry risks, including rare but serious vascular complications, which your injector will thoroughly review with you.

Lips, Lip Border & Smile
For lip enhancement, we offer several approaches. Lip filler can add volume and definition to the lip body and border. If you are looking for a subtle enhancement without added volume, a Botox Lip Flip may be appropriate. We also offer consultations to address a gummy smile.
8. Laxity and Tissue Tightening
Mild to moderate skin laxity—particularly the development of hooded, heavy tissue around the upper eyelids—can be frustrating for those who feel it makes them look tired, but who are not ready for or interested in invasive surgical options like a blepharoplasty.
Skin Laxity
In carefully selected cases, Plexr Plus plasma technology can tighten and lift tissue, such as for a non-surgical eyelid lift. However, it is never a surgical equivalence and is never appropriate for brow lifting or global facial tightening.
9. Hair Concerns
Our clinical approach to hair management generally moves in two distinct directions: safely and effectively reducing unwanted hair on the face and body, or working to support the health and density of the hair you already have on your scalp.
Unwanted Hair
Pain-free laser hair removal offers a comfortable, long-term solution for reducing unwanted hair on the face and body.
Hair Thinning
For early-stage hair thinning, a PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) assessment can determine if you are a candidate for scalp therapy. PRP provides supportive growth factors, though it is not a universal cure for all types of hair loss. Note: We provide standard PRP, not PRF or PDGF therapies.
10. Therapeutic and Medical Concerns
Beyond cosmetic and aesthetic enhancements, medical injectables can provide profound, functional relief for certain physical and neuromuscular conditions that impact your daily quality of life.
Migraines, Excessive Sweating & Bruxism
Our Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive assessments for chronic migraines, underarm hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and TMJ/bruxism (jaw clenching). Please note that our interactive skin quiz does not diagnose these medical conditions—a direct consultation is required.
